Sometimes, in the middle of everything that comes with being a parent, you just need a moment to lift you.

We were in the Algarve. A week away with the kids and the in-laws. It was good — properly good — but demanding. Someone always needed something. Something always needed organising — we needed some space, so my wife and I decided to disappear for two nights. The kids stayed with their grandparents and we drove west, to Sagres.

We stayed at Martinhal, right on the edge of the Atlantic. Almost immediately, we felt the release — a chance to breathe again, a chance to be ourselves.

Those two nights felt like two weeks on another planet. They created a closeness we hadn't had as a couple for a long time. And when it was done, we went back refreshed and renewed — able to take on anything.

We didn't go to Martinhal to escape our family. We went to remember who we were as a couple — so we could return to them properly.

This is the inspiration for Treats.
